Gerald R. Ford was the 38th President of the United States, serving from 1974 to 1977, after serving as Vice President from 1973 to 1974 and as a member of Congress from 1949 to 1973. His wife, Betty Ford, was an integral part of his political life and became well known for her openness as First Lady - a trend that continued after the Fords left the White House, when she founded the Betty Ford Center for addiction treatment.
