Course Title: (HIS209) THE HISTORY OF DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA
Come discover the unique and fascinating history of Daufuskie Island, South Carolina. Based on arrowhead styles found on Daufuskie, Native Americans are believed to have arrived on the island as early as 9,000 years ago. In the early 1700s, the Indigenous tribes were driven away by explorers, traders, and settlers. While under British rule, plantations were developed for growing indigo, and lucrative Sea Island cotton. Plantation owners on the island fled to the interior during and following the Civil War, leading the way to many changes on the island.
