The 1st South Carolina Volunteers of African Descent, later the 33rd U.S. Colored Troops, were the Union Army's first Black regiment-formed over a year before the 54th Massachusetts. This class explores their history through voices like nurse Susie King Taylor, Pvt. Paul Jones, and Col. Thomas Higginson, highlighting their contributions during the Civil War.
