Course Title: (HIS12926) CIVIL WAR DIARIES - FEMALE NURSES, SPIES, AND SOLDIERS
The Civil War revolutionized women's acceptable roles; 3,000 women served as nurses -- absolutely unheard of at the time -- and others became soldiers or spies. Female soldiers were often honored as heroes by both armies. However, Southern female spies serving the Union [once outed] were subjected to harsh criticism and complete ostracism from society for the rest of their lives.
