T&L 2900: Explicit Instruction
Explicit instruction is a systematic and direct approach to teaching that is characterized by clear and structured lessons. It involves breaking down complex skills or concepts into smaller, more manageable steps and providing students with clear explanations, models, and examples. The goal of explicit instruction is to make the learning process transparent and accessible to all students, particularly those who may struggle with abstract or complex ideas. Explicit instruction is particularly effective for teaching foundational skills, such as phonics, vocabulary, and basic math concepts, as well as for introducing new and complex ideas in a clear and accessible way. It is often used in conjunction with other teaching strategies to provide a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for students.
