OUD: The Psychosocial Context in Pregnancy and the Postpartum

This course uses a human rights framework for healthcare to explore opioid use disorders (OUDs) in pregnancy and postpartum. Substance use disorder is a key contributor to maternal mortality but can be reduced through specific strategies such as stigma reduction, understanding and addressing adverse childhood experiences, and improving provider-patient relationships. This course will engage participants in current research on opioid use disorders in pregnancy and postpartum and explore how healthcare providers can champion maternal rights.In this course you will learn how to:Examine the association and linkage between maternal rights, maternal mortality, and OUD.Investigate the influence of stigma as it relates to pregnant or postpartum women with OUD.Develop and prioritize a framework for improving provider-patient relationships.
