Course Detail: Garden Learning Series

Spend time learning new skills in one of the most peaceful settings on campus. This series brings community members together for hands-on workshops led by local experts and Garden staff. Each session focuses on a different topic like gardening basics, nature crafts, seasonal projects, and simple ways to support a healthy landscape at home. Participants will get practical instruction, see demonstrations, and try techniques they can use in their own yards. All sessions take place at the Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern and are designed for beginners and hobbyists who enjoy learning by doing. Join us for a relaxed, welcoming experience that celebrates plants, creativity, and the natural spaces that make our region special.

Please contact communityprograms@georgiasouthern.edu or give us a call at 912-478-5555 with any questions about this program.  Registration cost includes Botanic Garden entrance fee.

Stop guessing what is happening beneath your lawn! As the second installment in our November Garden Learning Series, this interactive lab session will teach you how to analyze your soil type (sand, silt, or clay), balance pH levels, and build healthy root systems that thrive. You'll also learn how to navigate powerful digital mapping tools, including the USDA Web Soil Survey and the SoilWeb mobile app, to uncover the exact subterranean soil series right under your home address. Mastering these fundamentals will save you valuable time and money as you design, build, and maintain your ideal landscape or personal crops.
