Join us for a history-rich day trip exploring the Battle of Brier Creek campaign and the important role this region played during the American Revolutionary War. Departing from Statesboro, participants will travel through historic areas of Screven County while learning about colonial Georgia, Revolutionary-era events, and the people and places that shaped the region's history.

The central focus of the tour will be a visit to the site of the Battle of Brier Creek. Fought on March 3, 1779, it was one of the most significant yet least-known battles in Georgia during the Revolutionary War. Although the battle ended in a British victory, it allowed the re-establishment of Georgia as a royal colony and, according to Patriot General William Moultrie, delayed the end of the war by nearly a year. Recent archaeological investigations at the battlefield, along with the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, have renewed interest in this pivotal chapter of Georgia's history.

The guided journey will include stops in Newington, the Brier Creek Battlefield at Tuckahoe Wildlife Management Area, and Millhaven Plantation. Along the way, participants will learn about the movements of British and Patriot forces, the strategies employed during the campaign, and how the surrounding landscape influenced the events of the battle.

Throughout the tour, your guide will share stories about colonial Georgia, the Revolutionary War, George Washington's 1791 visit to Georgia, the Goodall House, Millhaven Plantation, and Sherman's March through Georgia, providing a deeper understanding of the region's rich and complex history. Participants will also enjoy lunch in Sylvania before returning to Statesboro.
