About the Program

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) has joined forces with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to offer an online Certificate in Aviation Management.

This program is designed for junior level managers currently working in the aviation industry or professionals entering the industry and seeking a managerial role. The certificate's curriculum addresses topics such as the overview and interdependence of the air transportation system and fundamental skills required of supervisors and/or managers.

The aviation management certificate's coursework is fully online and self-paced. Enrollment in this program is open and students have 12 months to complete the program.

Upon successful completion of the Certificate in Aviation Management, students receive a Certificate of Completion from Embry-Riddle and the Aviation Management Professional (AvMP) designation from IATA. All courses in this program are for professional education and do not count for academic credit or toward any degree program.

  • The purchase of the certificate includes all 6 courses. All course material and exams are self-contained within each course. Exams can be taken within the online courses whenever you choose and do not have to be scheduled separately.
  • Details for online course access will be provided to students by Embry-Riddle via email within five business days of payment confirmation by IATA Finance. Embry-Riddle will send additional instructions to finalize the registration process.

IATA Courses

  • ALF 4000 Air Transport Fundamentals (IATA)
    This course will provide students with an overview of the air transportation system and the interdependence among its components: airlines, airports, civil aviation authorities and air navigation services.
  • ALF 4100 Airline Marketing (IATA)
    This course presents common airline marketing and commercial trends to help students revamp your marketing practices and develop a marketing plan efficiently. Technology and effective methods of communication is becoming a vital part of customer retention. This course presents different tools that make it easier to identify targets and objectives. Course content also examines the potential benefits and drawbacks of airline alliances.

Completing the IATA courses

  • IATA courses require approximately 45 hours of study for each course, to be completed within 12 months from the purchase date (enrollment validity).
  • Course materials and exams are contained within each course. Exams are completed in the online course whenever the student choses and do not have to be scheduled separately.
  • Exams consist of 100 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within three hours.
  • Passing grade is 60%; students are allowed two attempts to achieve a passing grade.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Courses

  • MGM 6000 Strategic Planning
    This course will introduce participants to the essential components of strategic planning (Mission, Vision, Values, Goals, Objectives, Strategies, and Actions Items). The course reviews how the elements of a strategic plan form a coherent framework for operationalizing an organization's most important work. Students will exit the course with a toolkit for leading or participating in strategic planning within their organization in the aviation industry.
  • MGM 6100 Leadership Development
    This course will help participants develop self-awareness as leaders. Students will explore leadership styles, and learn how to utilize leadership assessments to cultivate self-awareness and develop high performing teams. Participants will learn about adaptive leadership while considering the adequacy of traditional theories for leading in complex environments. Upon completion of this course, students will be equipped to be more capable and confident leaders.
  • MGM 6200 Airline Management
    An introduction to the administrative aspects of airline operation and management is provided in this course. Students will receive an overview of the air transportation industry and its importance in the twenty-first century. Topics include the annual profit plan, uniform system of accounts and reports, demand analysis, scheduling, the theory of pricing, fleet planning, facilities planning, and airline financing.
  • MGM 6300 International Aviation Management
    This course presents established airline marketing and commercial trends to help you improve your marketing practices and develop a marketing plan efficiently. Technology and effective methods of communication are vital components to customer retention. This course presents different tools that make it easier to identify targets and objectives. Airline alliances, its benefits and potential drawbacks are also reviewed.

Completing the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Courses

  • These courses require approximately 45 hours of study for each course, to be completed within one year.
  • A final cumulative grade is based on performance in quizzes, assignments and final exam.
  • To successfully pass each course, students must achieve a grade of 70% or higher.
