Students will work towards improving current tennis skill level and strategy by means of practice as well as feedback from the instructor. Pilates exercises are performed on the floor using a yoga mat to support your body and movement. This class focuses on building core strength, improving balance, coordination, muscle tone and flexibility. Designed for beginners, the class also offers adaptations and progressions for intermediate and advanced students, ensuring everyone is challenged at their own level. Yoga mat is required, and will be provided for students who do not have one.

This course introduces the various factors that contribute to avalanche hazard including terrain, weather, snowpack and the human component (good vs. bad decision making). Avalanche safety equipment such as transceivers, probes and shovels are also presented, with instruction on how to use each of these critical pieces of safety gear. Field time is spent on: 1) developing rescue skills, including transceiver search techniques (single and multiple burial), probing and shoveling; 2) snowpack assessment; and 3) safe travel practices / group travel skills. Upon successful completion of our courses, students receive a certificate of completion in accordance with the American Avalanche Association. This is a non-credit Community Education course, taken with credit students. You will not receive college credit.

This course is designed to provide the student with the necessary knowledge and skills to care for an injured or suddenly ill person in a remote location. The methods and protocols presented follow the Wilderness Medical Society guidelines for a 16 hour certification and are specific to a wilderness setting. The Wilderness Medical Society defines wilderness as a remote geographical location more than one hour from definitive care. This is a non-credit Community Education class, taken with credit students. You will not receive college credit.

Restorative yoga is a powerful sequence of supported therapeutic postures to turn on the body's natural healing capacity. This is an experience of holding shapes while being supported with bolsters, blankets and sandbags to add traction, grounding and increased range of motion. Props support the body to open and lengthen gradually.

This snowshoe course is to explore various snowshoe trails and explore the winter wonderland of Central Oregon. Snowshoeing is a great aerobic exercise and a way to meet other snowshoers. Participants should be in relatively good shape and be able to walk up to 6 miles (a good reference is walking up Pilot Butte to the summit without stopping or being winded at the top). Snow levels vary and may dictate each week's outing.


This course contains no sessions at this time.
Learn Taekwondo! Master Jung offers expert training in traditional martial arts, focusing on discipline, respect and physical fitness. Taekwondo gives a total body workout while providing stress relief, practical self-defense skills and increased self-confidence. Classes are taught at Master Jung's studio, Deschutes Jung's Taekwondo, and are open to community members 16 and above. This 8-week class is held once per week and leads up to optional belt testing. Master Jung is 4th-degree black belt in Taekwondo, 1st-degree blackbelt in Judo and Hapkido, and a professional boxer.

The Upper Deschutes Watershed Council is coordinating a Watershed Workshop Series to help community members learn about the Whychus Watershed through presentations and workshops from local conservation leaders and natural resource experts. Topics will include watershed history, native fish, riparian ecology and stream restoration and monitoring. Watershed studies will be complemented with a unique blend of hands-on activities in fly-casting and Gyotaku print making. The series will culminate with an inspiring film event.
