Course Description: Leatherworking: Classic Tote Bag and Coin Purse

Discover the art of leatherworking, and make your own custom tote bag! Not only will your tote be the most-used piece in your bag collection, but you'll find out just how easy it is to make.There is some sewing, but we promise it's just a few straight lines. We provide all the supplies and tools, you pick the leather color that suits your style! We are also offering you a small coin pouch to make during class. Leave with two beautiful handmade leather pieces, new crafting skills and the confidence to tackle future leather project.

Additional Course Information

Class will be held at instructor's studio, located 20 minutes south of the COCC Bend campus. Please call 541-383-7270, or email ceinfo@cocc.edu, for the address after you register. Directions will also be emailed prior to the class. Bring noise reducing headphones or ear plugs if sensitive to loud noises as students will be using hammers to insert metal closures. Hand dexterity and grip strength will be utilized during this class.

Elise Michaels

Biography: Many know Elise Michaels as the voice and face of Central Oregon radio & television for many years. If you've lived in the area for long, you'll remember her from radio's "Scott & Elise Morning Show" to "Mornings with Dave & Elise", along with hosting "This Week in Central Oregon" on KTVZ.Elise is also the owner/creator of Elise Michaels Media, responsible for building many local websites, including Street Dog Hero, Deschutes Historical Museum, and Partners In Care, to name a few.But it's Elise's behind-the-scenes interest that brings her to COCC: teaching leatherworking! Elise has been a hobbyist in the craft for decades and in the past couple of years she has opened her own studio teaching the ways of creating with leather. From cuff bracelets to catchall/valet trays to the ever-popular No-Sew Crossbody Bag, Elise loves to empower folks with the knowledge and ability to make their own creations, without having to purchase all the tools and leather that are needed in this fun hobby.

Cancellation Policy

Students must cancel by contacting our office via phone: (541) 383-7270 or email: ceinfo@cocc.edu. Cancellations received 5 days prior to the start of the class will receive a full refund. Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash. Failure to participate in a course or program does not result in a refund. Exceptions to the general refund policy are noted in the course descriptions on our website and in the printed schedule.
