Course Detail: W-AP-EL-CODE - 2026: NEC Code Change

Learning Outcomes -
By the end of this course, participants will be equipped to explain some of the most relevant changes to the NEC for 2026
Residential Load Calculations (Article 120):?General lighting and receptacle load calculations for dwelling units are reduced from?3 V A/ft2 to 2 V A/ft2
Emergency Disconnects (Section 230.70):?Service disconnects for one- and two-family dwellings must be located outdoors and in a readily accessible location, serving as the emergency disconnect.
Limited Energy Systems (Chapter 7):?A major overhaul consolidates low-voltage systems (30V or less). New Articles 720-750 cover wiring, power sources, and cables, removing these from Articles 300 and 800.
Island/Peninsula Receptacles (210.52(C)(4)):?New, specific rules prohibit certain, often used, receptacle locations on base cabinets to improve safety.
Surge Protection (215.18, 230.67):?Feeder surge protection is expanded to include bedrooms and sleeping quarters in various facilities.
Certification -
Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion that can be used as a CEU in States other than Idaho. Idaho no longer requires Electrical Journeyman to complete CEU's.
Target Audience -
The target audience for this class are Electrical Journeyman and Master Journeyman.
HVAC Journeyman may also benefit from learning the updated code. They often must know and adhere to NEC
