Course Detail: W-IND-ASE-A4 - ASE - Suspension and Steering (A4)

This six-week course provides comprehensive, theory-based instruction in the diagnosis and repair of automotive brake systems. Students will develop an understanding of hydraulic system fundamentals, as well as diagnostic and service procedures for drum and disc brake systems. The course also covers the operation and servicing of power assist units and introduces advanced brake technologies, including Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS), traction control, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
Emphasis is placed on adherence to safety standards, proper tool selection and usage, and compliance with industry regulations. Upon completion, students will be prepared to pursue Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in brake systems.
Learning Outcomes -
At the end of this course, participants will be equipped with:
The ability to perform Steering Systems Diagnosis and Repair such as:
Diagnose steering column noises and steering effort concerns (including manual and electronic tilt and telescoping mechanisms); determine needed action
Diagnose, inspect, adjust, repair or replace components (including motors, sensors, switches, actuators, harnesses, and control units) of steering column-mounted, electronically controlled, hydraulically and/or electrically assisted steering systems; initialize systems as required
The ability to perform Suspension Systems Diagnosis and Repair such as:
Inspect and replace upper and lower control arms, bushings, hardware, and shafts
Inspect and replace upper and lower ball joints.
Diagnose, service and/or replace front wheel bearings and/or hub assemblies.
The ability to perform Wheel and Tire Diagnosis and Service such as:
Diagnose tire wear patterns; determine needed action.
Diagnose tire pull (lead) problems; determine needed action.
Certification -
This course is intended to be an Exam Preparation course. Students will leave the course prepared to take the ASE Exam as well as with a Certificate of Completion from the College of Eastern Idaho WTCE. This course is for Professional Development.
Target Audience -
This course is intended for Automotive Technicians that want Industry backed credentials.
This course is intended for automotive professionals who possess practical, hands-on experience in vehicle service and repair but require a stronger foundation in theoretical knowledge to successfully complete ASE certification examinations.
This course is targeted to employers aiming to enhance workforce competency by providing structured training in common industry challenges.
