Course Detail: O_ILLIAD - Homer. The Iliad

If you missed reading the Iliad when you were in school or college, or would like to renew your acquaintance, here's your opportunity. We will read and discuss Homer's story about the wrath of Achilles and its terrible consequences in the Trojan War, caused by Helen (so some say). We'll also briefly consider the Iliad's place in the Epic Cycle, reading some bits from a few extant passages, and will view wonderful art from the period as well. No prior knowledge is needed. Required book: The Iliad of Homer, trans., Richmond Lattimore, ISBN 9780226470498, USM price $15.
