Course Detail: C_OSMMUE614CURRICULUM - MUE 614 Curriculum Development and Assessment

Do you feel like you've been teaching the same music and concepts forever? Do you wonder what songs and pieces are appropriate for today's learners? Have you lost track of how your individual lessons add up to a meaningful big picture of what music is, how humans engage with it, and why it all matters? Let's turn up our teacher creativity.

In this course, models of curriculum design ranging from meta-level planning to daily lessons will be considered alongside supporting topics such as SEL, DEIA, culturally relevant/responsive/sustaining pedagogy, and post-Covid learners. Each participant will select a planning strategy and reimagine a component of their curriculum with an eye toward 2023-2024 implementation.

Class will meet virtually on June 17 for orientation. Students then will work with the instructor through the design of individual projects and meet on July 19 to present their designs to their peers in a conference-style presentation.
This course is open to all and fulfills an Osher School of Music core requirement for the MM in Music Education (Music Education).
