Course Detail: C_FEMINISTYOGA - Feminist Yoga

As we prepare for another semester during the pandemic, the Women & Gender Studies Program and the Office of the Provost invite you to audit WGS 220 Feminist Yoga Thursdays, 2 - 4:30pm on zoom, free of charge.

The class explores the intersection of yoga and social justice and teaches yoga as a feminist self-care practice. Although yoga has been commodified in ways that promote fitness obsession and body shaming, inherent in its philosophy is establishing self-acceptance and compassion.  Yoga asks us to be in the body fully and to let go of harmful constructions of self; it offers a safe space in a framework grounded in liberation from suffering. It can be useful to help us find connection and joy in a sometimes frustrating and angry world.

Through readings, class discussion, and yoga practice, the course will address the following issues (among others): Racial Diversity and Yoga;  Body Positive Yoga and Feminism; Trauma and Yoga; Inhabiting the Body; Managing Stress with Yoga/Breath Awareness; Addiction and Yoga; Yoga for Depression and Anxiety;

This course will give you the tools and the space to manage stress and prioritize self-care as you navigate the unpredictable pressures of the coming semester. Please join us!
