T&L 2900: Individualized Book Study for Teachers at DLB

This course proposal is based on the needs of teachers in a rural school district where there are few teachers at each grade level and content area. This course is designed to meet the needs of teachers with varying levels of experience across different teaching contexts, focusing on identified areas of professional learning that support collaboration, reflection, and shared learning.

Consistent with adult learning theory, teachers in this course will have the opportunity to engage in self-directed learning while following a consistent methodology that will increase opportunities for collaboration, autonomy, and accountability. In this course, teachers will select an education-focused book relevant to their teaching context.

Teachers will:
  • Identify the reason for their selection and how it will strengthen teaching and learning.
  • Outline a reading plan that divides the material into 8 sections to meet the course requirements.
  • Share learning from each section with other course participants.
  • Share ways that the learning from each section is impacting teaching and learning in the classroom - depending on the book and its focus, this learning might be shared in a variety of ways that will be determined through discussion with the instructor and participants.
  • Complete a final reflection at the end of the course.
All course activities will take place in Google Classroom.
