T&L 2900: Sargent Central Anxious Generation (Book Study)

Adolescent mental health declined sharply in the early 2010s, with rates of anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicide rising dramatically. In The Anxious Generation book study, we explore Jonathan Haidt's argument that smartphones, social media, and overprotective parenting have "rewired" childhood and fueled this crisis. Across four weekly discussions, we will examine the shift from a play-based to a phone-based childhood, the impact of technology on children's social and neurological development, and ways we can take collective action to support youth in a digital world. The study also offers insights into adolescent brain development and practical strategies for building deeper connections with the children you parent or teach.
