T&L 2900: STAR Training
This training uses a flipped classroom approach. Participants work on their own in online modules where information is explained and modeled, and guided practice activities are provided. Time estimates are given for watching the modules, but the modules are self-paced. Participants must then practice applying what was learned with their own students. Time estimates given for the modules do not include time for practice and reflection as planning and lesson times vary from teacher to teacher.
Participants receive feedback and support from their trainers and from other training participants in their program. Some modules are program team meetings where participants get together with other participants from their program for planning and reflection. These meetings can be conducted face-to-face or virtually as appropriate for the program.
We will hold day-long face-to-face meetings to cover the pre-assessment modules, Modules 11, and Module 24. This will allow participants to dig deeper into implementing what they have learned by sharing and discussing with their trainers and colleagues. There will also be a face-to-face kick-off meeting for everyone during the NDALL Conference. Additionally, there will be a webinar for participants who will be supporting teachers in Module 29 as coaches. Two optional modules (13 and 25) provide additional information and support. Once a module is started, participants can go back to it at any time. Modules will be available to support participants, programs, and states.
Participants are encouraged to move through the modules at their own pace but are asked to stick roughly to the syllabus so that everyone can benefit from the cohort online discussion. Plan to work ahead when you know you will be on break or have a busy schedule that might prevent you from engaging in the training modules. Participants are asked to complete modules 1 - 10 by the Module 11 face-to-face meeting and modules 12 - 23 by the Module 24 face-to-face meeting in preparation for the module activities. All modules must be completed by April 30, 2025.
