T&L 2900: BHS Educator Wellness 2025 (Book Study)

At BHS, we work to foster Collective Teacher Efficacy (CTE) to improve student literacy and the
implementation of high-quality instruction. Collective Teacher Efficacy is educators' shared belief that through their combined efforts they can positively influence student outcomes, including outcomes for those who are disengaged, unmotivated, and/or disadvantaged. However, CTE (and our CTE Equation) and high-quality, research-backed pedagogy (BHS Instructional Framework) is only as strong as the educators who work to implement them. Thus, this learning opportunity is designed to help elevate educators in becoming the best, healthiest versions of themselves by:
  • Developing a keen and deep understanding of their own wellness needs
  • Responding to their individual needs with targeted actions via an action plan
  • Expanding their knowledge and practice of wellness "best practices"
As we work together in order to mitigate the decision fatigue (Lamothe, 2019) and high levels of stress (Riley-Missouri, 2018) that accompany a profession in education, this learning opportunity will encourage participating educators to build better wellness in their own lives. Thus allowing teachers, as the most impact factor in student achievement (DuFour, Et. al., 2024), to combat the negative cognitive effects of burnout (Michel, 2016) and work to elevate BHS's Instructional Framework and Bismarck Public School's Portrait of Learning in a personalized and relevant way.
