OSHA 5400 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry

Prerequisites: Students must have successfully completed the OSHA 5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry within the last seven years and have five (5) years maritime industry safety responsibility.

This course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10 and 30 hour Maritime safety and health Outreach Training Program to their employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics required in the 10 and 30 hour Outreach Training Programs as well as the most hazardous in the maritime industry using OSHA Maritime Standards as a guide (OSHA 29 CFR 1915; 1917; and 1918). Students are briefed on effective instructional approaches and use of visual aids and handouts.
Course participants who successfully complete the course, including preparing a presentation on an assigned OSHA maritime industry topic and passing a final exam will become OSHA Authorized Maritime Outreach Trainers, authorized to conduct both the 10 and 30 hour Maritime outreach classes in shipyard employment, marine terminals, and longshoring, and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion.
This is a national class and a collaboration between all of the OSHA Training Institute Education Centers (OTIEC). Students from all OSHA regions and Education Centers are welcome to register. You will register through UA's registration department and will remain affiliated with the UA OTIEC.
If the class is Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) via Zoom, it is intended for persons who are previous customers or reside or work within the OSHA Birmingham Region which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida Panhandle, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. If you live or work outside of this region and are not a previous customer, we encourage you to seek virtual training within your Regional Authorized OTI Education Centers.
