Biography: Trip Umbach is a partner in Bradley, Arant, Rose & White, LLP in Birmingham, AL. Mr. Umbach practices in the areas of labor and employment law, general litigation and appellate litigation. He has represented both public and private employers in all types of employment litigation in state court, federal court, and before administrative agencies. He has defended claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, The Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, and the Mine Safety and Health Act. He has also defended wrongful discharge, discrimination, breach of contract, and workers compensation claims under Alabama law. He has represented employers in the drafting and enforcement of non-competition agreements. A major part of Mr. Umbach's practice involves helping clients to develop employment strategies and policies that reduce and avoid the risk of being sued by employees. This aspect of his practice include reviewing and drafting employment policies, developing and participating in training programs concerning these policies, advising employers regarding employment decisions, and assisting with various types of employment related investigations. Mr. Umbach also practices labor law, representing management in matters involving the National Labor Relations Act. He has represented clients in connection with union organizing campaigns, unfair labor practices, and strikes. Mr. Umbach ahs also helped clients develop strategies to avoid union organization. Mr. Umbach's general litigation proactive has included commercial litigation, products liability, consumer fraud, transportation claims, and housing discrimination.
