Many industrial activities, like material handling, waste storage, and equipment maintenance, are exposed to the elements, allowing stormwater runoff to carry pollutants into nearby rivers, lakes, and wetlands. Federal regulations [40 CFR 122.26(b)(14)(i)-(xi)] require stormwater discharges from certain industrial activities to be covered under National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. Successful completion of this one-day course will provide foundational knowledge for staff to achieve compliance with NPDES permit conditions. Topics include: development of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), review of best management practices (BMPs), sampling and monitoring strategies, and understanding permit conditions.
