Charles Noon
Biography:
Dr. Noon is the Regal Entertainment Group Professor of Business (Emeritus) and Clinical Professor of Graduate & Executive Education in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee (UT).  Prior to his current role, he served as department head in the department of Business Analytics & Statistics. Throughout his 37-year career with UT, he has taught at all levels in a variety of degree and non-degree programs. He was a founding member of the highly-ranked Physician Executive MBA program in 1998 and continues to teach in it to this day.  He earned his B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in Industrial Engineering from the University of Louisville, and his Ph.D. in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan with a focus on discrete optimization in transportation networks. His awards include the 2000 Gregory Dobbins Outstanding Teaching & Research Award, the 2017 Richard Sanders Outstanding Leadership in Executive Education Award, and seventeen annual Outstanding Teacher Awards in the Physician Executive MBA and Healthcare Leaders EMBA Programs.

Dr. Noon's teaching interests include operational improvement in healthcare, business modeling, applied optimization, and decision analysis. His academic research concerns computer-based models & process improvement, and his publications in these areas have appeared in top journals including INFORMS Journal of Applied Analytics, Interfaces, Operations Research, Transportation Science, and Journal of Healthcare Management. Dr. Noon's early applied experience includes Director of Research & Modeling at Jewelry Television and large-scale optimization modeling projects at a number of organizations including Philips Consumer Electronics, Dell Computers, TVA, Martin-Marietta, and the Electric, Power Research Institute. In 2009, he co-founded X32 Healthcare LLC which is devoted to modeling, education & consulting in emergency medicine.  Through X32 Healthcare (which was later acquired by TeamHealth), he has worked with numerous healthcare systems across the globe on patient flow, staff scheduling and process improvement.  Dr. Noon is also co-author of a leading book on emergency department operations improvement.
