ATH-930: Applied Sport Psychology for Coaches

This course is designed to present practical, real-life, applied experiences to the coach or teacher that will be immediately helpful in inspiring and motivating themselves and their athletes and students toward achievement levels that they may not have felt possible. The mental processes that bring about outstanding learning, achievement and excellence are the same whether it's in the academic, music, or athletics arena. Areas covered in the course include principles of performance psychology, goal perspective and achievement motivation, the effects of anxiety and stress on performance, how to build confidence in your athletes, and the effects of athletics competition on moral reasoning and character. Great coaches, teachers, and athletes have the ability to draw the extraordinary out of themselves and those they work with. The coach or teacher will be gaining understandings and specific techniques that will result in significant improvement in performance. This course meets SHAPE-America NSSC standards.
