Overview

The highly anticipated HFACS Advanced Course is designed to provide participants with an advanced understanding of the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) and its application in safety management. This course goes beyond the basic concepts of HFACS and the Human Factors Intervention Matrix (HFIX) taught in the 2-day introductory course and explores advanced techniques for integrating proactive safety tools and data analytics into the framework. Participants will learn how to leverage these tools to enhance safety analysis, identify potential hazards, and develop effective safety interventions.

Course Objectives

  • Introduction to Proactive Safety Tools: Explore a range of proactive safety tools, such as Safety Management Systems (SMS), Safety Culture Assessments, Risk Assessments, and Human Error Prediction tools.
  • Integration of Proactive Safety Tools with HFACS: Learn how to integrate proactive safety tools into the HFACS framework to identify latent conditions and organizational factors that contribute to accidents and incidents. This will include:
    • Gap Analysis
    • Change Management
    • Red Light/Green Light
  • Data Analytics for Safety Analysis: Understand the role of data analytics in safety analysis and how it can be used to identify trends, patterns, and potential safety risks.
  • Safety Interventions and Mitigation Strategies: Learn how to develop effective safety interventions based on the analysis conducted using HFACS and proactive safety tools.
  • Best Practices and Implementation Strategies: Discuss best practices for implementing the integrated approach of HFACS, proactive safety tools, and data analytics within an organization.
The HFACS-Advanced Course can be completed independently, or toward completion of the Certificate of Management in Aircraft Accident Investigation.
