Course Detail: AVE-1400 - English for Flight Training Assessment (EFTA)

Two people talking in front of an airplane

Overview

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's English for Flight Training Assessment (EFTA) is a speaking and listening test designed to determine a test-taker's readiness to participate in flight training conducted in English. EFTA results provide information about how the test-taker's English language skills are likely to support or interfere with their ability to learn and communicate effectively in a flight training environment. The EFTA helps flight training organizations (FTOs) assess a test-taker's ability to be successful in-flight training.

Although questions on the EFTA may relate to aviation or flight, aviation knowledge and radiotelephony skills are not evaluated. The test-taker's English language proficiency is evaluated based on six skills: Pronunciation, Vocabulary, Structure, Fluency, Comprehension, and Interaction.

The test is delivered online and requires 1.5 hours and a reliable internet connection. The test-takers' answers are evaluated by two trained EFTA Raters. Results are provided within three weeks.
