Course Detail: CSIOYSTERTASTING - From Tide to Table: Exploring Oyster Ecology, Farming, and Culinary Delights

SOLD OUT!!!Join us for an educational evening and tasting event focused on North Carolina oysters. This event will take place at the NC Coastal Federation Office in Wanchese and at the Coastal Studies Institute on the ECU Outer Banks Campus. Program participants will tour the NC Coastal Federation's demonstration oyster farm while hearing about the statewide oyster blueprint and speaking with local oyster farmers. Back at the Coastal Studies Institute, guests will sample a variety of locally sourced wild and farm-raised oysters provided by Cousins Oysters. During the evening, CSI/ECU scientists will share their research on oyster farms and guests will interact with a panel of industry experts about the future of oysters and oyster farming in North Carolina.

Cost $135 per person; includes raw and roasted oysters with creative toppings and accompaniments paired with a selection of beverages, including wine and beer.

Tentative Program Schedule

5:00-5:45pm

Participants meet at North Carolina Coastal Federation (NCCF) in Wanchese.  Participants tour Oyster Farm and learn about the Statewide Oyster Blueprint from NCCF Oyster Program Director, Erin Fleckenstein Participants interact with local oyster farmers.

Oyster Aquaculture Research - Dr. Jim Morley, Assistant Professor, ECU Department of Biology, Assistant Scientist, Coastal Studies Institute Oyster tasting continues during presentation.

 

7:15pm -8:00pm

The Future of Oysters and Oyster Farming Panel Discussion Oyster tasting continues during panel discussion.

 

8:00 - 8:30pm

Participants mingle with panelists, oyster service continues.

Program Note
Program participants will begin the program meeting at the NC CoastalFederation Office and will then travel 4 miles (using their own transportation)to the Coastal Studies Institute on the ECU Outer Banks Campus.
