Course Detail: SPANT - Speak, Explore, Enjoy: Spanish for Your Travels

The program would begin with a comprehensive exploration of the history of the Spanish language, highlighting the significant differences between Spain, Mexico, and Latin America, emphasizing their distinct cultural and linguistic variations. Following this, students would dive into basic Spanish, focusing on general vocabulary essential for day-to-day conversations. A module on everyday expressions would introduce common exclamations and expressions used in various contexts. The curriculum would also cover greetings and socializing, equipping learners with the language needed for common interactions. Participants would then focus on practical language use, with a section dedicated to navigating a market day, where they would learn vocabulary related to money, directions, fruits, vegetables, and other items commonly exchanged in a market setting. The program would also address health-related vocabulary, including terms for visiting a doctor, handling health emergencies, and understanding basic anatomy. Communication through different media would be explored, with a focus on radio, television, and the press, helping students gain a better understanding of how language is used in these mediums. Finally, the program would offer an engaging look into the social fabric of Spanish-speaking cultures, covering topics like family, friends, entertainment, and cultural events, providing learners with the language tools to navigate parties, social gatherings, and celebrations.
