Course Description: CHN 199: Wok and Talk

This course offers an immersive introduction to Chinese language and culture through Chinese culinary arts. Students engage in online language preparation alongside dynamic, hands-on cooking labs. They will learn essential Mandarin vocabulary and basic conversational phrases related to food, cooking and dining etiquette. Through preparing eight home-style Chinese dishes, students will explore Chinese geography, dietary philosophy and everyday food-related cultural practices. By the end of the term, students will be able to prepare basic Chinese meals and use simple Mandarin in cooking and everyday dining situations. No prior Chinese experience required. This is a non-credit Community Education class taken with credit students. You will not receive college credit.

Students must cancel by contacting our office via phone: (541) 383-7270 or email: ceinfo@cocc.edu. Cancellations received 5 days prior to the start of the class will receive a full refund. Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash. Failure to participate in a course or program does not result in a refund. Exceptions to the general refund policy are noted in the course descriptions on our website and in the printed schedule.
