Course Detail: W-NF-HPT - Health Physics Technician (HPT)

The Health Physics Technician (HPT) Program at the College of Eastern Idaho prepares students for entry-level employment as health physics technicians committed to protecting people, equipment, and the environment from unnecessary radiation exposure.

Tuition: $4300

This 16-week program combines focused classroom instruction with extensive hands-on laboratory training to build proficiency in radiation safety fundamentals, hazard identification, exposure-control practices, and accurate documentation. Students train with industry-standard equipment and procedures used in national laboratories, commercial nuclear power plants, research institutions, and dosimetry and calibration facilities.

Graduates earn their DOE Core Card and demonstrate competency through practical, industry-aligned exercises. With small cohort sizes, rigorous academic expectations, and a curriculum grounded in real-world scenarios, the HPT Program consistently produces well-prepared, safety-focused technicians ready to enter the radiological protection workforce.
