Course Detail: ADRW-261 - ELEMENTS OF INTERIOR DESIGN


An overview of the field of interior design, this course will show you the methods used to create a room that is physically, visually and intellectually satisfying. Instruction includes basic principles of space planning, drafting, color theory, and materials and finishes. Students work toward creating an idea board for a residential room.


Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recite the steps to the design process
  2. Present the general space planning principles
  3. Create a space plan utilizing interior design scales.
  4. Create a mood board that demonstrates an understanding of materials and finishes and their current usages.
  5. Present a space plan and mood board to classmates and instructor

$295 plus $35 material fee
Ages 16+

List of supplies required for the course:
  • Optional: Laptop or tablet

  • Any Fabrics, Flooring, Paint, Artwork, that inspires your "room" or "project"

  • 8 ½ x 11 OR 11x17 Vellum Paper

  • "Trash Paper/Onion Skin" Roll Or Trace Paper

  • Drafting Pencil and Lead

  • Architectural Drafting Scale/Ruler

  • 24" Straight Edge Metal Ruler

  • X-ACTO® #1 Precision Knife with #11 Blades

  • Drafting Dots or Drafting Tape

  • 20 x 30 Black or White Foam Core

  • Rubber Cement

  • 3M Scotch® Permanent Mounting Tape
