Course Detail: AVIS-096 - CERAMICS: HAND BUILDING AND RAKU


Discover the art of ceramics in this course, focusing on hand-building techniques and the captivating process of Raku firing. Perfect for beginners and intermediate ceramicists  alike, this course will guide you through the fundamentals of working with clay-pinching, coiling, slab construction, and surface decoration-allowing you to create unique, functional, and sculptural pieces. Later in the course, you'll delve into the exciting world of Raku, an ancient Japanese firing technique known for its rapid cooling process, crackle glazes, and unpredictable, organic finishes. Limit 12 students

$195 plus $45 studio and material fee

Supplies required for the course:

The following items are available at the CCS Bookstore

  • X-acto blade

  • Needle Tool

  • Small bucket

  • Rubber rib

  • Potter's sponge

  • Rasp/ surform shaver

  • Various brushes

The following items are NOT available in the CCS bookstore:

  • An apron to cover clothing

  • A 2'x2' sheet of drywall, you can find these pre-cut at Lowe's and Home Depot
