Course Detail: AEXP-063 - FASHION DESIGN AND GARMENT CONSTRUCTION


In this comprehensive class, students will learn the complete process of garment construction, from initial design to the final stitch. They will master essential techniques such as pattern drafting, fabric cutting, sewing, and finishing details. With hands-on instruction, students will gain the skills and confidence to create a professionally constructed garment from start to finish.

Supplies needed for class:
  • Sewing machine
  • Measuring tape
  • Ruler (clear 18" plastic ruler preferred)
  • Designer ruler, French curve  (hip curve ruler optional)
  • Paper scissors and fabric scissors
  • Tracing paper 
  • Tailors' chalk or fabric marking pens/pencils
  • Pins and a pin cushion/magnet
  • Tracing wheel
  • Machine needles (universal)
  • Hand sewing needles
  • Bobbins
  • Safety pins
  • Thread
  • Seam ripper
  • Muslin fabric - Approximately 3 yards
  • Fashion fabric - Will discuss in class
  • Pencils, pens, and erasers
  • Roll of paper for patternmaking (commercial pattern paper/brown/white/semi-transparent)
  • Notebook or sketchbook for notes, sketches, and design ideas
