Training Information: CED-0830 - Craft Distilling: The Vermont Experience

Vermont is a leader in the nationwide craft distilling boom, and this training offers students direct, hands-on experience in the industry. Designed for those with a solid understanding of distillation who are ready to explore distillery operations, the program provides practical insight into building, running, and managing a distillery.

Over the course of a week, students will work alongside spirit master Dave Mosher at Black Flannel Brewing and Distilling Co., gaining tailored instruction and real-world skills. The training also includes visits to several Vermont distilleries, where participants will learn directly from owners about their approaches and operations.

Through lectures, demonstrations, distillery visits, and hands-on experience, students will learn:

  • The distilling process
  • Distillery design
  • Substrate choices
  • Basic business and marketing skills
  • Licensing
  • Permitting
  • Environmental concerns
  • Quality controls
Students will also learn about various products, business models, scales, and construction types of distilleries.
