2 VT DEC Soil Credit Training Hours: Soil texture identification practice and analysis for licensed designers who are already comfortable identifying soil texture for wastewater treatment systems. This training assumes familiarity with the USDA Soil classification system and Vermont soil characterization practices.

Participants receive an overview of the bovine reproduction cycle and common reproductive management interventions. Three hours is spent developing palpating skills and another three hours artificially inseminating dairy cattle.

Participants will focus on important soil properties in the field related to soil drainage and on-site waste disposal, including soil texture, color, redoximorphic features, soil structures and permeability. Participants will evaluate and identify soil characteristics using standards appropriate to Vermont wastewater system design, as well as describe soils and estimate seasonal high water table levels. This classroom portion of this training has been approved for four (4) Continuing Education credits by VT ANR.

Whole-animal butchery using classroom lecture and hands-on experience is taught in this three-part series. In the Introduction to Butchery session, participants will demonstrate chicken fabrication and lamb breakdown butchering skills. In the Pig Butchery session, participants will demonstrate the breakdown and various cuts of a pig, as well as value added production of sausage making, hams, and bacon. In the Beef Butchery session, participants will demonstrate the breakdown and various cuts of a beef half to include steaks, roasts, stew meat, etc. This training can be taken as an entire series or as individual training topics. These sessions may be taken as individually as opposed to the entire series.

Participants will be collect GPS data with a mobile device, make an online map with collected data, and move map layers from computer to mobile device.

This training is for existing farmers, new farmers, and people interested in gaining specialized knowledge of organic production and certification for a company, agency, organization, and/or if you want to pursue a career in organic certification. The training includes in-person lectures, discussion groups and field trips focused on farm crop production including vegetable production. It is preceded by a 4 hr. online workshop on the history and meaning of "organic" as well as general organic requirements. This workshop is completed prior to the in-person session.

This training is for existing farmers, new farmers, people interested in becoming an organic specialist for a company, agency, organization, and/or if you want to pursue a career in organic certification. The training includes in-person lectures, discussion groups and field trips. It is preceded by a 4 hr. online workshop on the history and meaning of "organic" as well as general organic requirements. This workshop is completed prior to the in-person session.

2 VT DEC Soils Training Credit Hours: Redox or mottles? What's in a name? Identifying saturated soil features is critical to designing soil-based wastewater treatment systems. This training will review the formation and identification of redoximorphic features including concentrations, depletions and the soil matrix.

With a focus on wetland hydrology; hydric soils; hydric vegetation; wetland development; and current Vermont regulations, participants will complete field practical's and demonstrate knowledge of soil and plant identification, and wetland delineation in accordance with the ACOE Field Delineation Manual.
