T&L 2900: MC: 2023 Teaching Native American Studies

The 2023 Native American Studies class will provide participants with resources to help them teach the new state requirement that will be added to North Dakota schools beginning soon. Teachers will meet will leaders in the area of Native American Studies from across the region. These leaders will provide materials and information to help facilitate teaching the class. This will include information on Native American history, geography, language, food, dance, storytelling. Participant will also visit area historic sites. 

The tour will begin at the North Dakota Heritage Center. Charter buses will be used to take participants to area points of interest. Participants will be given time at the conclusion of the class to type up tour notes and prepare a 500-to-1000-word reflective essay summarizing how they can apply information gained on the tour in their respective classroom activities. There will not be a charge for the credits for this class. Participants will also get free lodging and all meals will be provided. In addition, teachers that successfully complete the requirements will be given a stipend.

Cancellation Policy

If UND receives the Course Withdrawal Form 7 or more calendar days before the learning event start date, the fee paid to UND Professional Development for Educators minus a $35 processing fee will be refunded. If the fee paid to UND is less than $100 the processing fee will be waived. NO REFUNDS are available if a withdrawal notification is received 6 or less calendar days before the learning event start date.
