T&L 2900: VIR: Building Community Involvement in Your School for Individuals With Developmental and or Intellectual Disabilities

This course provides a framework of information and turnkey program resources to build community within the school through social participation sport, recreation, service learning and employment practice for students with intellectual and or developmental disabilities. Topics include the science of socialization, tips for developing likability, principles for belonging, integration, inclusive design and advocacy strategies.

More Info: Lisa Nordick has an M.S. in Educational Leadership from North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota. Her Master's Paper focused on established Continuing Education Unit practices of North Dakota University System institutions. Nordick has extensive experience in distance education, including online and blended learning environments. She also has extensive experience in educational needs assessment along with curriculum and program development and implementation. Nordick has been active in providing professional development opportunities for educators for more than 15 years.

Ann Dolence is a Certified Recreation Therapist working in the field of psychiatric care for 15 years. Ann taught Therapeutic Recreation Certification Courses at North Dakota State University for 5 years and Recreation Inclusion for People with Disabilities, Community Involvement for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Community Involvement for Individuals with Mental Illness as an adjunct instructor in the classroom and online at the University of North Dakota for 9 years. She has owned her motivational speaking and training service for 30 years speaking to thousands of people on the topic of Attitudes, Stress Management and Goal Setting and provided health/wellness consultation to schools and classrooms for the past 15years. Ann currently is a Developmental Adaptive PE (DAPE) teacher for grades K-8.
