15th International Symposium on Neurobiology and Neuroendocrinology of Aging
The Fifteenth International Symposium on Neurobiology and Neuroendocrinology of Aging to be held at the Gasthof Hotel Lamm, Bregenz, Austria on July 15-19, 2022. The objective of this meeting is to bring together a group of investigators who made recent significant advances in the study of mechanisms of aging, with particular emphasis on CNS aging, neuroprotection, and treatment of neurodegenerative disease. Moreover, the endocrine system and metabolic dysfunction tie many additional aging research areas together (genomic instability, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, epigenetic alterations, loss of proteostasis, deregulated nutrient sensing, stem cell exhaustion, inflammation). We address several of these topics in the context of neurobiology and endocrinology. We purposely include a wide range of topics and assemble a group of scientists that may not normally attend the same meeting.
The format of the meeting is modeled after Gordon Research Conferences and encourages formal and informal discussions of the material presented. Four invited lectures in the morning, and two in the evening, each followed by ample time for discussion, with the afternoon left open for informal discussions. There will be a poster session where conferees ( especially trainees) come together for important scientific discussions in a less formal setting. Another feature of the Symposium is the inclusion of oral presentations selected from abstracts submitted by trainees for the poster session. A novel component of the Bregenz Symposium includes a mini course on aging that takes place the afternoon before the opening reception and is open to all attendees. o maximize the value of the conference for students and "newcomers" to gerontology, the mini course integrates a brief introduction to the field with key advance information from the lectures in order to make them more understandable to participants from diverse backgrounds and put them into perspective from the standpoint of current approaches to aging research. Proceedings will be published as a special issue of Geroscience as has been done for the last 14 Symposia (different journals). We strongly encourage the participation of junior investigators, including graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Bregenz is a very attractive location for a meeting and is conducive to the participants spending a significant proportion of time together thus facilitating informal interactions. Housing costs are relatively low and travel to Bregenz is simple as trains are available from European cities and airports (i.e. Zurich airport-Bregenz 1.5 h). The hotel is a 15 min walk or a 5 min taxi ride from the train station.
