Helicopter Degraded Visual Environmental & Spatial Disorientation Training

This course is designed to train helicopter aircrews for degraded visual environments and spatial disorientation. The training will incorporate academics reviewing human orientation systems, the effects of visual illusions in the enroute, maneuvering, and landing zone phases of fight, weather-related illusions, tools of counter visual illusions, conditions that promote spatial disorientation (SD), pilot response to SD, review specific SD illusions, SD countermeasures, and immediate pilot actions. An enhanced visual practical lab will incorporate the elements of vision, plus visual and Night Vision Device limitations & optimization. The training will allow each student to spend approximately two hours in the helicopter SD/visual illusions simulator to experience and learn mitigation techniques in a realistic environment.
