T&L 2900: What It Means to Be a Lead Teacher

This course prepares educators to step into lead teacher roles within team-based staffing models. Participants will explore the core responsibilities, mindsets, and practices that distinguish lead teachers; the opportunities to shape team culture and student outcomes; and the adaptive challenges associated with leading adults while serving students.

Through guided reflection, practice-based tools, and real examples from Next Education Workforce? schools, learners will analyze and apply leadership strategies that center equity, clarity of roles, distributed expertise, psychological safety, and shared accountability. By the end of the course, educators will articulate their leadership identity, demonstrate foundational leadership moves, and build a plan to effectively guide a team of educators.
