T&L 2900: Oberon Monthly Professional Learning Institute
This UND credit professional development plan is designed as a one-day-per-month, face-to-face professional learning series for Oberon Public School educators. The monthly structure allows teachers to learn, apply, reflect, and return with evidence of implementation. Each session will focus on strengthening instructional systems through standards alignment, learning targets, common formative assessments, vocabulary instruction, mini reteach lessons, and the evaluation of student learning.
Throughout the year, educators will work collaboratively to identify priority standards, clarify what students must know and be able to do, and develop shared expectations for instruction and assessment. Teachers will break standards into clear learning targets and use those targets to guide daily instruction, student-friendly language, checks for understanding, and common formative assessments.
A major focus of the course will be connecting professional learning directly to classroom practice. Teachers will use student evidence, formative assessment results, and classroom observations to determine strengths, gaps, misconceptions, and next steps for instruction. Monthly PD will provide time for educators to build resources, review student work, design targeted reteach lessons, and plan intervention or enrichment based on demonstrated student needs.
By the end of the course, participants will have created standards-aligned instructional materials that can be used immediately in classrooms. Final materials may include priority standards documents, student-friendly learning targets, common formative assessments, explicit vocabulary lessons, mini reteach lessons, checks for understanding, and a reflection describing how the learning was implemented in practice.
