T&L 2900: RRVEC LETRS 1 Spring 2025 Cohort

LETRS Volume 1, which includes Units 1-4, focuses on foundational reading skills and the challenges of learning to read. It delves into the connection between language and literacy, what the brain does during reading, and how children learn to read and spell. Unit 1, "The Challenge of Learning to Read," specifically explores why reading is difficult and how the brain processes information. 

  • Unit 1: The Challenge of Learning to Read: This unit provides a foundation for understanding why reading is complex and examines the cognitive processes involved in reading. It also explores the relationship between language and literacy, and how children develop reading and spelling skills.
  • Unit 2: The Speech Sounds of English: This unit focuses on phonological awareness, the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds of language, which is crucial for early literacy development.
  • Unit 3: The Alphabet and Words: This unit delves into phonics, the relationship between sounds and letters, and how children learn to decode and encode words.
  • Unit 4: The Fluency and Comprehension: This unit covers the importance of fluent reading and how to develop reading comprehension skills.

Cancellation Policy

If UND receives the Course Withdrawal Form 7 or more calendar days before the learning event start date, the fee paid to UND Professional Development for Educators minus a $35 processing fee will be refunded. If the fee paid to UND is less than $100 the processing fee will be waived. NO REFUNDS are available if a withdrawal notification is received 6 or less calendar days before the learning event start date.
