T&L 2900: AVMR Small Group Math
Educators facing the challenge of meeting the diverse needs of learners will find the structure and tools in Math Recovery as a powerful approach to differentiated instruction. The Math Recovery Council has identified the essential components of an effective small group math lesson: targeted assessments with data analysis to pinpoint skill deficits, intentional instruction blending visuals, questioning, and learner processing, and progressive mathematization to support learners within the gradual release process.
Educators will use the Math Recovery assessments to determine instructional strategies, watch videos to support implementation and reflection, and work side-by-side with peers and coaches to refine best practice based on specific learners in the classroom. Educators will use their experiences along with new learning to fully implement small group math instruction within the classroom at their grade levels.
