Biography:

Dr. Summers is an Assistant Professor of Secondary Science Education in the Department of Teaching & Learning at the University of North Dakota. Prior to his work at UND Dr. Summers was a high school science teacher in Illinois. These experiences provide him with many skills in providing course work through the Office of Extended Learning. Dr. Summers received his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Eastern Illinois University, his Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Through a combination of research experience and pedagogy, this course is designed to build on and improve teachers' understanding of the scientific process and support them in their science pedagogy. A long term goals is to provide American Indian students learning environments that foster scientific inquiry and promote the attainment of careers in health care.

The College of Education and Human Development at the University of North Dakota, along with ND EPSCoR will be hosting a 1-day conference for PreK-12 teachers on Thursday, August 1st. Teachers from across the state of ND and MN will be invited to attend "Pages & Pathways: The Science of Learning: PreK-12 STEM Conference" and receive continuing education credit through the University of North Dakota.
