HIST 2900: Survey of the Culture of Rice in the Lowcountry

This course provides students with a cultural anthropological overview of the Southeastern United States Lowcountry during the years of the enslavement of African peoples in what was known as the Rice Kingdom. The specific crop of Rice is explored as well as all the ways the cultivation of this crop influenced the multiplicity of socio-economic factors present on the plantations and in the Lowcountry, the United States, and the World. The culmination of these events have established a way of life still evident in contemporary Lowcountry life. Such correlations will also be highlighted in the duration of the course. This course has been written for online delivery.

There is an additional fee of $99 payable to and collected by the instructor. This fee is separate from the credit fee paid to UND.
