Course Detail: GREATDIVIDE - 192 The Great Divide: A Historical Novel of the Panama Canal

Cristina Henríquez's The Great Divide (2024) is a sweeping historical novel set during the construction of the Panama Canal in the early twentieth century. Through a richly woven cast of characters, the novel shifts the focus away from the engineers and politicians typically associated with the canal and instead highlights the lives of the ordinary people-laborers, immigrants, families, activists, and local residents-whose stories have often been overlooked by history.
