Course Detail: 336APPALACHIAN - 336 Appalachian Trail Wanderings

Join us for an engaging presentation that explores the presenter's personal experiences hiking the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. This session will delve into the geography, history, and social aspects of the region while providing insights into the development of the Appalachian Trail. Participants will learn about the role of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and discover a little-known prisoner of war camp in central Pennsylvania through images and narrative. The session will introduce map and compass navigation and cover the ten essential items recommended for backpacking. A hands-on session will cover knot tying and basic map and compass use. Bring your imagination and a sharpened sense of wonder for foot travel beneath the pines.
