Course Detail: DECEMBER25MONTH - December 10, 2025 Crepe Paper and Candles: The Early Christmas Tree Presented by Thomas Trombley

We will explore the early history of the Christmas tree in Saginaw. Although we promise we won't destroy any holiday traditions, we will discuss some myths and misconceptions. We will delve into how Christmas trees were decorated and have an in-depth discussion about pre-1920 treedecorations. Although we will explore early lighting, fire codes prevent us from demonstrating lighting candles on an evergreen tree. While the main focus will be on the pre-World War I era, we will save some time to discuss a few later traditions. And the lecture will include an opportunity to make your own reproduction ornament. It is a very simple craft - we promise.
