Join author, photographer and architectural historian, Dale A. Carlson, as he retraces the 1891 itinerary of architect Albert Kahn through Paris museums and the cities and villages of France's Centre-Val de Loire. See dozens of intricately detailed and aesthetically optimized reproductions of Kahn's drawings of museum holdings and captivating architecture. Experience the history and grandeur of destinations like the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres, Château d'Azay-le-Rideau, Maison de Diane de Poitiers, the Cluny Museum and the City of Architecture and Heritage, all through the prism of Kahn's drawings and his writings of the era. This presentation will offer a sneak peak of Carlson's forthcoming book on Kahn's European travels and drawings, entitled Kahn's Europe: The Freehand Drawings of Albert Kahn at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, to be published late in 2025.
